Braces are devices used to align and straighten the teeth and helps to position with regards to persons bite.

They are used in dental practice mainly, to treat various flaws of teeth and jaws :

For what age, braces are adviced

This question comes in every persons mind.but there is no such age limitation to treat your teeth.

● For children ideal age to take orthodontic treatment is 12-13 years ,but can be started as early as 6 years

● For adults ,we can treat the teeth as soon as defect is diagnosed…

Braces are categorized into different types –

● Metal / traditional braces.

● Ceramic braces.

● Lingual braces.

● Invisalign.

Metal braces :

These are metal brackets and wires fixed to patients teeth.

● Most commonly and traditionally using in dental practice by dentist.

Advantage : least expensive type, colored bands gives a person a chance to express themselves.

Disadvantage : They are noticeable during smiling and speaking.

Ceramic braces :

These are metal brackets and wires fixed to patients teeth.Ceramic braces are similar to metal braces in their form ,size but the most likely feature is that they blend in tooth.

● less noticeable than metals..

Advantage : least expensive type, colored bands gives a person a chance to express themselves.

Disadvantage : more expensive.brackets can stain if patients takes coloured foods.

Lingu braces :

All set is similar to metal brackets ,except whole material are placed in the backside (inner side)of teeth.

Advantage : Not visible when patient smiles.

Disadvantage : Difficult to clean and maintain.

● Can be more uncomfortable at first.

● Regular adjustments take longer duration of results.

Invisalign :

It consists of series of 18-30 custom made mouth guard-like clear plastic aligners.
they can be removed by own and also replaced periodically .

Advantage : Invisible,patients can eat and drink what they like.

Application of orthodontic braces in dental conditions like

TO CORRECT –

1 ) Protrusion of teeth.

2 ) Crowded teeth.

3 ) Closing spaces /gaps between teeth.

4 ) Deep bite.

5 ) Cross bite.

6 ) Overbite.

7 ) Open bite.

8 ) Under bite.

Post treatment care

After treating with braces, in order to prevent the teeth from moving back to original position, RETAINERS are worn once the desired bite/teeth alignment has come.

Retainers

They helps to maintain and stabilize the postion of teeth long enough to permit reorganization of supporting struc.
